Akaslompolo is a
magical Lapland resort that promises to be a sunny and cheerful
getaway in the Christmas holidays.
Akaslompolo can be reached by flight from
London via Helsinki. The accommodations available at Akaslompolo
are the Lapp Village Cabins or the Yllashumina Hotel. The
Yllashumina Hotel is owned by, Toiva Quist and his wife Meeri.
The hotel is one of its kind and has a beautiful log cabin
complex. A building in the middle, houses a sitting room, a bar
and a restaurant. This is surrounded by a colony-like
arrangement of conventional Finnish log cabins. A cabin has four
beds of which two are placed on an elevated gallery. It also has
a drying cupboard, a hairdryer, a telephone and a private
shower. The complex also has a tempting common sauna at the
center.
On way from the
airport to the accommodation, one must not forget to get hold of
the special thermal attire that will enable one to withstand the
cold and crisp air of Akaslompolo.

After reaching
the accommodation, one might enjoy a hot water bath or even
indulge in the sauna. This needs to be followed by a good cover
of warm clothing before one embarks on a husky safari before the
afternoon ends. Refreshments like buns, warm juice and beverages
will enthuse travelers after the five-kilometer long safari. On
return to the accommodation, the vacationers will get a treat of
welcome drink before dinner. |
| On the second day, the travelers can visit
the Lapp Village for a taste of fun-filled winter
activities. The children will find the village delightful,
as the activities like tobogganing, kick sledging and skiing
will provide utmost entertainment to them. They can have fun
with snowballing, making Christmas adornments or baking
cookies. The traditional “crossing the Arctic Circle”
ceremony may be performed by, Lappish women to entertain and
welcome visitors to Lapland. Each family of vacationers can
be given a reindeer sleigh or snowmobile ride to a
neighboring cottage where Santa is believed to be enjoying a

The travelers
can have lunch any time amidst all these excitement, as lunch is
served in the Lapp Village all day long. After paying a visit to
Santa, one can return to the accommodation, for rest and for
some hours at the bar before a sumptuous Christmas dinner is
served.
On the next day vacationers might feel like enjoying the
beautiful natural scenes and the cold winds carelessly. Later,
after lunch, they can embark on a snowmobile safari to enjoy the
unmarred wilderness of Lapland.
Thus the stunning scenic beauty, the crisp cold winds, the snow,
