The town of
Ruka, situated near the Russian border, is fast gaining
popularity with tourists who love skiing. Ruka boasts of a
magnificent mountain and twenty-eight ski slopes. The ski slopes
here are floodlit due to the absence of adequate natural light.
The unmarred nature and the chilly winds make Ruka perfect for
winter activities. Every year Ruka provides the enthusiasts with
240 days of skiing. Moreover, Ruka is situated very close to
Santa’s home and is hence bustling with festivities during the
Christmas season. The blanket of deep white snow, the welcoming
hospitality of the place and the fun and frolic of Christmas are
bound to make the holiday a memorable one.

A thirty minutes journey from Ruka brings
one to Vuotunki where the visitors can engage in
tobogganing. They can also enjoy the grilling of sausages by
the side of a lovely fire. Here, Santa might meet all the
visitors in his age-old cabin and the children can make
Christmas decorations, bake buns and cookies or perform
other Christmas fun chores. Last Christmas, when guests went
to meet Santa Claus, refreshments like tea, coffee, wine,
and berry juice were served. |
| A self-driven snowmobile safari on the
maintained tracks is extremely enjoyable as the magnificent
snow-clad scenes are unparalleled. The safari provides fun
and enjoyment throughout the entire twenty kilometers
distance. Drivers only need to make sure that they do not
drive without a license. Night in Ruka is beautiful. The
twinkling stars and the soft moon seem to decorate the
Arctic sky for the Christmas celebrations. Embarking on a
snowmobile safari through the darkness of the night will be
a memorable experience. |

The snow-clad
forests will look even more charming in the piercing headlights
of a snowmobile. A lucky vacationer might even catch a glimpse
of the Northern Lights in the night sky. This night safari can
go on for hours provided the travelers have adequate clothing
and boots on them.
A visit to the
nearby reindeer farm will be highly rewarding. One might end up
having a fun ride on a reindeer. Stories and anecdotes about
reindeers from a herdsman will be an enlightening experience.
Ruka provides a
vacationer with a wide range of accommodation options. One can
opt for a cozy log cabin, a sophisticated hotel or an inn set in
the scenic landscape. Ruka has four hotels with as many as
fourteen hundred beds in total. Moreover, it has eighteen
hundred cottages spread over an area of five kilometers.
